After being unable to find work due to a neurological disease, Inverness resident Stan Fraser put himself to work building a massive 1:10 scale model of the Titanic as part of his very own Titanic Inverness Maritime Museum which takes up most of his yard.
Using two old trailers as the base of his model, Fraser slowly built his homage to days of sea-bound luxury right in his backyard. Eventually large amounts of scrap materials donated by neighbors and even a disused shed were added to the structure. Now complete and open as a museum (mainly directed at kids), the mini-boat contains three main rooms: a Parisian-styled cafe, a replica bridge, and a Marconi radio communications room. Fraser has also installed a fake fog horn and a radio that actually works into the ship as well.
In his home, which makes up the indoor portion of the museum, photos and information about the boat are available as well. To avoid being sunk for not having the correct permits, Fraser simply accepts donations. The ramshackle boat cost the former lighting engineer less than ₤1,000 to create so this is one luxury liner that will pay for itself in no time.
