La Maison Picassiette

A mosaic-tiled house built by graveyard sweeper Raymond Isidore

Raymond Isidore was frustrated, recently released from the mental hospital, when he began building his house. The French graveyard sweeper collected plates, cups, and any other ceramics he could find in the local dump and covered every nook and cranny of his house in an ever-expanding mosaic.
The house took 30 years, 29,000 hours of work, and 15 tons of crockery to create. Isidore's work as a graveyard sweeper also found its way into his grand project. He built himself a fabulous "sweeper's throne" facing an equally fabulous "sweeper's tomb."
